Idyllwild welcomes Mark D. Smith as new Postmaster

Mark D. Smith as Idyllwild new Postmaster

IDYLLWILD, CA — Mark D. Smith follows a proud tradition dating back when Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster of the United States.

In 2011 Smith began his postal career as the Postmaster Relief in Donald, Oregon. He was promoted to Postmaster in Marylhurst, Oregon in 2014.  He served as Postmaster, Hoonah, Alaska prior to his promotion as Postmaster in Idyllwild.

“I am honored to be the Postmaster of Idyllwild and take the responsibility to serve the community every day,” said Smith. “I look forward to helping our community any way I can.”

Smith received his master’s degree in education and Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Washington State University. He currently resides in Idyllwild with his wife, Sarah, and their two rescue dogs, Rábano and Chia. He enjoys cooking and baking bread and is an avid crossword fan and enjoys movie trivia.

As Idyllwild Postmaster, Smith services 2606 Post Office Box deliveries. Idyllwild serves a population of nearly 4,000.

Smith replaces Ray Wilson who retired in June.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
