BENICIA, CA — In a world of easy driver distractions it requires a calm and patient mindset to drive safely and maintain the level of focus and concentration Benicia Carrier Lorna Lualhati sustained to reach one million accident-free miles.
On Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at 8:30 am, at the Benicia Post Office, 290 E L St, Benicia, CA 94510, will be inducted into the National Safety Council “Million Mile Club.”
Since joining the Postal Service in 1984 Lualhati has delivered through changing seasons and landscapes from Sherman Oaks, CA, to Honolulu, HI before settling in Benicia in 1999. Lualhati has served the past 14 years all on the same route.
To Lualhati, “Safety is no accident. We need to be safety conscious at all times.” She has instilled this same focus to her trainees over the past 30 years while serving as an on the job instructor to new employees.
Imagine driving the equivalent of 334 times across the country or 40 times around the earth without ever leaving the city limits and not so much as a fender bender. The achievement is even more remarkable when you factor in the hazardous road conditions, gridlock, rural terrain, and the constant alertness for careless drivers along the way.
“Our carriers deliver with safety as a priority,” said California-2 District Manager Mike Mirides. “The truly remarkable achievement by our Benicia Post Office carrier exemplifies how postal employees continue to deliver on the promise of delivering their best every day with care, courtesy and concern for the safety of others.”
Lualhati will be presented with a plaque from the Safety Council and automatic membership in the prestigious National Safety Council “Million Mile Club.” The million-mile award is a lifetime enrollment, and it is given to drivers who have accumulated one-million miles or 30 years of driving without being involved in a single preventable motor vehicle accident, a truly remarkable achievement according to the National Safety Council.
