SAN FRANCISCO, CA — In a world of easy driver distractions it requires a calm and patient mindset to drive safely and maintain the level of focus and concentration San Francisco Transportation Driver Jaime Deguzman sustained to reach one million accident-free miles.
On Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 1:30 p.m., at the San Francisco Processing and Distribution Center, 1300 Evans Ave., San Francisco, CA 94188, Jaime will be inducted into the National Safety Council’s “Million Mile Club.”
Jamie has witnessed many changes and expansion to the community since starting his position in the 1980’s. A Navy Veteran, Jaime came to the Postal Service with a commitment to service and dedication to delivering his best for the community. Jaime has witnessed many changes and growth since becoming a Motor Vehicle Operator, of which he has served 25 years driving out of the San Francisco Processing Facility.
“Safety is my number one priority. I am always concentrating on my surroundings,” said Jaime of his achievement. He encourages new drivers to maintain the same focus and diligence to stay aware and focused while driving.
Imagine driving the equivalent of 334 times across the country or 40 times around the earth without ever leaving the city limits and not so much as a fender bender. The achievement is even more remarkable when you factor in the hazardous road conditions, gridlock, rural terrain, and the constant alertness for careless drivers along the way.
“Our transportation drivers operate throughout our vast logistics network with a keen commitment to safety,” said San Francisco Transportation Manager, Gregory Henderson Jr., “The truly remarkable achievement by our San Francisco Motor Vehicle Operator exemplifies how postal employees continue to deliver on the promise of delivering their best every day with care, courtesy and concern for the safety of others.”
Jaime will be presented with a plaque from the Safety Council and automatic membership in the prestigious National Safety Council “Million Mile Club.” The million-mile award is a lifetime enrollment, and it is given to drivers who have accumulated one-million miles or 30 years of driving without being involved in a single preventable motor vehicle accident, a truly remarkable achievement according to the National Safety Council.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
