Final Decision on Proposed Relocation of Culver City-Main Office Post Office

Culver City, CA — On November 15, 2017, the Postal Service held a public meeting to discuss the possible relocation of the Culver City Main Post Office located at 11111 Jefferson Blvd., Culver City, CA 90230, to a new location within the area. After the meeting, the Postal Service received letters from a few customers expressing concern about the traffic and distance to drive to the new location. The Postal Service has carefully considered all the concerns expressed in those discussions, as well as in appeals and comments received after the public meeting. For the reasons set forth below, the Postal Service has decided to proceed with the proposal.

The Postal Service was notified by the landlord in 2017 that the Jefferson Property was to be redeveloped and the landlord would not renew the lease. The Postal Service has been looking for a replacement property since 2017. In mid-2021, the Postal Service has identified 6695 Green Valley Circle, Culver City, CA 90230 (“Green Valley Property”), as its preferred new location.

Negotiations were recently completed with the new landlord, and a 20-year lease commitment has been secured. The opening of the new facility is expected this year and will provide the same level of service that is currently provided at the Post Office. In addition, one of the Postal Service’s goals is to secure a new customer service location as close to the current site as possible and within the same ZIP Code, which is the case with the Green Valley Property. The new facility is only two miles away from the current Post Office.

While the Postal Service is sensitive to the impact of this decision on its customers and the Culver City community, the Postal Service properly considered community input and this decision is consistent with Postal Service objectives. Postal Service operations generally are not supported by tax dollars. To be self-sustaining, the Postal Service must make decisions that ensure it provides adequate and affordable postal services in a manner that is as efficient and economical as possible.

This is the final decision of the Postal Service with respect to this matter, and there is no right to further administrative or judicial review of this decision.
