Oversees USPS Services to Winterhaven, Bard & Felicity
SAN DIEGO — Gena Charney was recently named the Postmaster of the Winterhaven Post Office.
She replaces former Winterhaven Postmaster Margaret DeWitt, who retired.
As Winterhaven Postmaster, Charney supervises three postal clerks, including one at the Bard Post Office that she also manages, and two rural mail carriers. She is responsible for overseeing retail services at both the Winterhaven and Bard Post Offices as well as the daily distribution of mail to 450 addresses and more than 1,900 PO Boxes.
Charney is a 22-year postal employee who previously served as a clerk and acting supervisor at the Calexico Post Office. She began her postal career as a clerk at the Calipatria Post Office.
“I’m overjoyed to be entrusted with the daily operations of the Winterhaven Post Office and to join the list of those who served in this capacity before me,” said Charney. “I hope to continue to provide outstanding customer service to the community, and to contribute to the overall success of the Postal Service.
“As outlined in USPS’s Delivering for America plan, we are modernizing and continually adapting to the changing needs of our customers. Our customers are priority one, whether they’re located in the biggest cities or smaller communities such as Winterhaven, Bard and Felicity.
“I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to my family and to many USPS mentors for their encouragement, guidance and support over the years. Special thanks to my coworkers at the Calexico Post Office for their constant uplifting and pushing to make me better, and to the leadership team at the USPS San Diego District office for having faith in me and giving me this opportunity.”
Charney was born and raised in El Centro, CA, graduated from Central Union High School and received an Associate in Science Degree from Imperial Valley College. Her hobbies include deep-sea fishing, whale and dolphin watching, and an occasional game of darts.
She and her husband Michael reside in El Centro with their three children and are in the process of adopting two additional children. They’ve previously hosted five foreign exchange students from five different countries.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations
