OROVILLE, CA — Ofelia Villegas will become the 30th Oroville Postmaster, dating to 1854 when Peter S. Garlow was the first Postmaster. On Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., Villegas will take her official oath as Oroville Postmaster at the Oroville Post Office, 1735 Robinson Street, Oroville, CA 95965. Manager Post Office Operations will administer the official oath of office.
Villegas began her postal career in 1994 as a city carrier in Los Angeles. She relocated to Yuba City in 2004 and was promoted to her first management position in Grass Valley as supervisor customer service in 2015. She was promoted as Postmaster Grass Valley in 2018.
Villegas replaces former Oroville Postmaster Jennifer Arnold, who moved on to another postmaster position in Carmichael, CA.
As Oroville Postmaster, Villegas supervises 72 postal employees at the Oroville Post Office and the daily distribution of mail to 3,310 PO Boxes and more than 41,200 addresses on 18 city delivery routes, 9 rural routes and 3 highway contract routes.
“I’m honored to have this responsibility and trust placed in my hands, and I will strive to provide our customers excellent service,” said Villegas.
“As outlined in our USPS Delivering for America plan, we’re modernizing and continually adapting to the evolving needs of our customers. I’m very much aware of the vital role we play in connecting neighbors and the community to the nation.”
The oath Villegas will take is the same taken by members of Congress and other federal employees, with the exception of a president. The wording of this federal employee oath dates back to an amendment made in 1861 to the 1789 Oath Act, the first bill passed by the U.S. Congress. Conversely, the 35-word oath taken by the President of the United States on first entering office is specified in Article II, Section 1, of the Constitution.
