Who:

Robin Betts, Manager Customer Service, will be able to give a big picture of how Dog Attacks impact the U.S. Postal Service.

Zoltan Nagy will be on hand to help provide ideas for homeowners regarding their dogs.

When:

8:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.
Tuesday, June 7, 2022

Where:

Santa Rosa Carrier Annex
2850 McBride Ave.,
Santa Rosa, CA  95403.

Background:

Running June 5-11, National Dog Bite Awareness Week is a USPS-sponsored public service campaign that offers safety tips and emphasizes the need for increased owner responsibility in the prevention of dog attacks. Its theme this year is “USPS Delivers for America. Deliver for Us by Restraining Your Dog.”

Please share the following tips when reporting on this critical issue:

  • If a letter carrier delivers mail or packages to your front door, place your dog in a separate room and close that door before opening the front door. Dogs have been known to burst through screen doors or plate-glass windows to get at strangers.
  • Dog owners should remind their children about the need to keep the family dog secured. Parents should remind their children not to take mail directly from letter carriers in the presence of the family pet as the dog may view the letter carrier handing mail to a child as a threatening gesture.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
