New Postmaster coming to Madera

Background:

On Friday, in her 21st year as a postal employee, Arvin Sekhon will be sworn in as Madera Postmaster.

Sekhon began her postal career in 2001 as a City Carrier in Fresno CA.  She has worked several different positions which include Supervisor Customer Service in Madera and various Officer in Charge Positions in the following cities:  Firebaugh, Coarsegold, Kingsburg, Chowchilla.  Sekhon was promoted to Postmaster of Auberry, CA in 2014 and was later selected as Postmaster of Chowchilla post office in 2021.

“As the Postmaster of Madera, I look forward to providing the best customer service in a timely manner while following postal policies and procedures.  The health and safety of all employees will be a priority for me.  I am honored to be a part of the Madera community and will seek to know the needs of my local customers.”

Sekhon enjoys embroidery, traditional dancing and swimming.  She has two daughters, Komal Sekhon and Palveen Sekhon and one son, Sukhjeet Sekhon.  She is wife to Balraj Sekhon.  She works with seniors in the Aasees organization and community leaders in the Punjabi Sikh community to make social services available to all households suffering barriers due to language, inaccessibility to computers, abuse, cultural differences and shyness due to religious practices.  Sekhon is also a Sunday School Teacher at Gurdwara Singh Sabha and periodically volunteers as a local radio host.

As Madera Postmaster, Sekhon oversees over 31,000 pieces of mail delivered daily while also servicing over 1,000 Post Office Box deliveries.  She manages 86 employees and oversees 43 postal routes to serve a population of more than 65,000.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
