PINOLE, CA — On Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. Pinole Letter Carrier Lawrence Chui will clock in for the very last time after 42 years of Postal Service.
Chui started his postal career in 1980 as a clerk at the Rincon Annex in San Francisco before transferring to the Pinole Post Office in 1984 as a carrier.
Chui chose to become a Postal employee because he was curious about the processing and delivery of the mail. He also thought it would be a great opportunity to explore the city and communicate with the community.
Chui’s appointed rounds have been marked by many achievements including his status as a Million Mile Driver. As a Million Mile Driver award recipient he has driven a million miles without even a fender-bender after logging more than a million miles delivering the mail. He has driven the equivalent of 40 times around the globe, all without leaving the city limits.
He states that he will miss the customers he has met and grown to know along his route.
Chui is looking forward to spending his retirement with his family and taking it easy before pursuing any new hobbies.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
