Tracy Tan, San Leandro Postmaster

SAN LEANDRO, CA— Tracy Tan raised her right hand and took the official Oath of Office as the Postmaster of the San Leandro, CA Post Office on Monday, October 24, 2022, in a special ceremony. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy administered the Oath to Tan alongside 31 other Postmasters throughout California.

Tan, a proud 18-year postal employee started her career in 2004 as a carrier in Fremont. Throughout her career she served several assignments including Supervisor in stations such as Fremont and San Jose. In 2018, Tan stepped into her most recent role as Supervisor at the San Leandro Main Post Office before serving as Postmaster of San Leandro.

As outlined in the USPS Delivering for America plan, the postal service is also committed to modernizing and continually adapting to the evolving needs of all customers. As the Postmaster of San Leandro, Tan is excited to take on that new challenge.

“It’s truly a surreal moment. Never did I think nor expect that I would one day become a postmaster in charge of hundreds of employees-much less a whole city,” said Tan. “However, with this new beginning, I hope to strengthen the systems my predecessors have established and continue to grow with the city of San Leandro.”

Tan resides in Fremont, CA where she enjoys spending time with her family including husband Robert Tan, son Toby Tan, brothers Wanrui Shin and Ban Shin, mother Beng Ng and father Kin Shin.

In her spare time, Tan enjoys attending local Myanmar charity events and Buddhist charity events. Tan volunteers in the community by cooking for Buddhist monks and supporting Myanmar citizens in need.

As the Postmaster of San Leandro, Tan supervises 182 employees who process forty-eight thousand pieces of mail and oversees the retail services and the daily distribution of mail to 52,982 delivery stops, to a community of over 92,000 residents.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations
