SUNLAND, CA — On Friday, February 17, 2023, Abriel Vega followed a proud tradition dating back to when Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General of the United States.
In his 26th year as Postal Service employee, Vega raised his right hand to take the official Oath of Office as the Postmaster of the Sunland Post Office at a ceremony at the Sunland Post Office, 8587 Fenwick St., Sunland, CA 91040.
Post Office Operations Manage Jolene Fischer administered the oath.
Vega began his postal career in 1997 as a casual carrier at the Burbank Post office. He was selected as a Supervisor of Customer Service in 2013 prior to his promotion as Postmaster of Sunland in November 2022.
As outlined in the USPS Delivering for America plan, the postal service is committed to modernizing and continually adapting to the evolving needs of all customers. As the Postmaster of the Sunland Post Office Vega is prepared to serve his community with that development in mind.
“As Postmaster of Sunland, my primary goal is to ensure that the post office is functioning at its best,” said Vega. “I will make every effort to provide the Sunland community reliable and efficient service and continue to build strong relationships with both customers and residents.”
Vega resides in Glendale where he enjoys spending time with his wife Melanie and children Daniel, Joshua, Alyssa, Jordan, and Deja.
As Sunland Postmaster, Vega oversees over 26,976 pieces of mail delivered daily while also servicing over 1,122 Post Office Box deliveries. He manages 18 employees and oversees 10 postal routes to serve a population of more than 20,606.
