An Automotive Technician for the USPS performs routine and complex repairs and maintenance on all types of motor vehicles used in the postal fleet; troubleshoots and diagnoses more complex vehicle malfunctions using a variety of computerized test equipment; and assists lower-level employees. 

To qualify for the Automotive Technician position, candidates will be required to successfully complete postal exam 943. It is similar to an ASE style exam. The exam covers topics on basic engine theory, basic electrical, emissions, suspension, and alignment.

Applicants must be 18 years of age, or 16 years of age with a high school diploma or GED. All applicants must be able to pass drug screening and a criminal background investigation. Any position that has a driving requirement will also require a valid driver license and clean DMV 2-year driving history. Citizenship or permanent resident status of five years is required.
