On Friday, May 5th, in her 29th year as a postal employee, Marci Luna will be sworn in as Bakersfield Postmaster.
Luna began her postal career in Los Angeles, CA as a letter carrier. She was subsequently promoted in 1999 as a delivery supervisor and assumed various management positions in subsequent years such as station manager, officer-in-charge, and finally postmaster.
“It is a great honor to serve Bakersfield as your new Postmaster. To me, being Postmaster means being a servant leader. In my years with the United States Postal Service, I’ve seen firsthand the role the Postal Service plays in connecting neighbors and our community to the nation. Our post office serves as a lifeline for our small businesses to reach customers no matter where they are,” said Luna. “Under PMG Louis DeJoy’s leadership and Delivering For America, the Postal Service’s 10-year plan, we are maintaining universal six-day mail delivery, stabilizing our workforce, and spurring innovation to meet the needs of our modern customers.”
Luna enjoys spending time with her family, reading, and hiking. She is married to her husband, Victor Luna and they have two adult sons, Andrew Luna 29, and Chris Luna, 25. Luna has an Associate Degree and is Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certified. She volunteers during Sunday Mass as an assistant and is a proud member of her Neighborhood Watch.
As Bakersfield Postmaster, Luna oversees nearly 500,000 pieces of mail delivered daily while also servicing over 13,000 Post Office Box deliveries. She manages 610 employees, 255 postal routes with a population of over 416,000.
