FORT JONES, CA — On Wednesday, June 28, 2023, John Pylant will follow a proud tradition dating back to when Benjamin Franklin was the first Postmaster General of the United States.
Pylant will raise his right hand to take the official Oath of Office as the Postmaster of the Fort Jones Post Office at a 10:00 a.m. ceremony at the Fort Jones Post Office, 11954 Main St., Fort Jones, CA 96032.
Manager of Post Office Operations Paul Heroux will administer the Oath.
Pylant has proudly served the Fort Jones community for his entire 12-year postal service career. He began his postal career in 2011 as a rural carrier associate and in 2014 transitioned into the role as a career clerk. Pylant served on several details as acting Postmaster of the office before officially receiving the promotion as Postmaster of Fort Jones Post Office at the beginning of 2023.
Retired Fort Jones Postmaster Elizabeth Edmonds will make an appearance as the emcee of the event, she beamed “He is the most dependable leader I’ve ever met. I could always rely on him.”
As outlined in the USPS Delivering for America plan, the postal service is committed to modernizing and continually adapting to the evolving needs of all customers. As the Postmaster of the Fort Jones Post Office Pylant is prepared to serve his community with that development in mind.
“It is an honor and a privilege to serve the Fort Jones community,” said Pylant. “The Post Office is the cornerstone of the community it serves, and it is my goal to ensure that every employee and customer that comes to the Fort Jones Post Office feels welcome and appreciated.”
Pylant resides in Etna, CA with his wife Teresa. In his free time, he enjoys cooking healthy meals, working on his project cars and gardening with his wife.
As the Postmaster of Fort Jones, Pylant oversees a total of three offices including Fort Jones, CA 96032, Greenview, CA 96037 and Scott Bar, CA 96085. In his role he supervises nine employees and oversees the retail services and the daily distribution of 3,000 pieces of mail and 500 packages to 850 delivery stops, 650 PO Boxes, 3 rural delivery routes to a community of over 1,500 residents.
