Torrance Post Office Gears Up for Holidays

What:

The Torrance Post Office is #BuiltfortheHolidays this holiday season with the installation of the newest in package sorting machinery.

The Small Delivery Unit Sorter (SDUS) gives a critical lift to large Post Offices and is capable of processing over 3,000 packages per hour during an operating window mainly in the early morning hours. It takes a minimum of four clerks to keep this machine running. With a continued trend in online shopping the need for expedited package sortation remains a key tool to help carriers make their rounds faster than ever before.

Background:

As a key component to the Delivering for America plan the USPS is modernizing its operations. A total of 348 new package sorting machines have been installed nationwide as a part of a $40 billion investment in the postal network. The new equipment combined with increased operational precision will expand USPS’s daily package processing capacity to 70 million

The USPS has the most sophisticated mail processing and delivery network in the world and continues to maintain a keen eye on product, performance, price and most importantly people to deliver right in the nick of time this holiday season.

The Postal Service’s preparedness for the holiday shipping and mailing season reflects strategic investments and operational precision improvements made as part of the Delivering for America plan.

Additional holiday initiatives include:

  • No holiday surcharges and no additional fees this holiday season when sending by USPS.
  • Now Moving 95% of Mail and Package Volume via More Reliable Ground Transportation 

2023 USPS Holiday Shipping and Mailing Deadline

The Postal Service recommends the following mailing and shipping deadlines for expected delivery by Dec. 25 to domestic addresses and Air/Army Post Office/Fleet Post Office/Diplomatic Post Office (APO/FPO/DPO) addresses*:

USPS Is Ready for the Peak Shipping Season

A new shipping option this year is USPS Ground Advantage, a service that provides a simple, reliable and affordable way to ship packages with day certain delivery of  2-5 business days based on distance.

In addition to our convenient retail locations, customers can purchase their shipping labels, order Priority Mail packaging and schedule free carrier pick up via the Postal Service’s shipping platform Click-N-Ship. Customers using the platform will have access to Commercial Shipping Rates that will apply to all domestic package labels — making it easier for customers to ship their packages.

The Postal Service is built for the holidays, serving 165 million addresses across the country and covering every state, city and town. Everyone living in the United States and its territories has access to postal products and services.

Review the details on how to ship packages to military and diplomatic addresses at domestic prices, even if you are sending mail overseas. Notably, the Postal Service is the only delivery service that ships to APO, FPO and DPO addresses.
