Karla V. Abarca

NEWBERRY SPRINGS — Karla V. Abarca was recently named the Postmaster of the Newberry Springs Post Office.

In that position, Abarca manages four employees and oversees retail services at the Newberry Springs Post Office and the daily distribution of mail to more than 400 PO Boxes and on three delivery routes in Newberry Springs and Ludlow.

She replaces former Newberry Springs Postmaster Bridgette Kilmore, who departed the Postal Service.

Abarca is a nine-year postal employee who began her career as a mail carrier at the Barstow Post Office, and then moved on to supervisory positions at the Adelanto, Hesperia and Barstow Post Offices before assuming her current position at Newberry Springs.

I’m proud and excited to have been selected for this position,” said Abarca. “I hope to further the Postal Service’s legacy of outstanding customer service, to support the development of my employees’ careers, and to contribute to the overall success of the organization.

“As outlined in USPS’s Delivering for America plan, we are modernizing and continually adapting to the changing needs of our customers. Our customers are priority one, whether they’re located in New York City or Newberry Springs.

“I want to express my gratitude to my family for their support, to my postal mentors for their guidance, and to the leadership team at the USPS San Diego district office for giving me this opportunity.”

Abarca was born in Costa Rica, attended Chaffey High School in Ontario and currently resides in Barstow. Her hobbies include spending time with her family.
