DESCANSO — Cynthia Murray-Delong was recently named the Postmaster of the Descanso Post Office. 

In that position, Murray-Delong manages four employees and oversees retail services at the Descanso Post Office and the daily distribution of mail to more than 900 PO Boxes and on one delivery route in Descanso.

She replaces former Descanso Postmaster Dana (Shawn) Blair, who retired.

Murray-Delong is a 22-year postal employee who began her career as a postmaster relief employee at the Potrero Post Office and most recently served as the postmaster of the Campo Post Office.

“I’m honored and excited to have been selected for this position,” said Murray-Delong. “I hope to further the Postal Service’s legacy of outstanding customer service and to contribute to the overall success of the organization.

“As outlined in USPS’s Delivering for America plan, we are modernizing and continually adapting to the changing needs of our customers. Our customers are priority one, whether they’re located in major metropolitan areas or smaller communities like Descanso.

“I want to express my gratitude to my family and friends for their support, to my postal mentors for their guidance, and to the leadership team at the USPS San Diego district office for giving me this opportunity.”

Murray-Delong was born in San Diego, graduated from Mountain Empire High School and Cuyamaca College and currently resides in Campo. Her hobbies include spending time with her family, kayaking, fishing, boating and gardening.
