Special Envelopes, Postmark to Highlight Once-a-Century Alignment
What:
On Friday, Sept. 20, the Encinitas Post Office will commemorate a once-a-century alignment of the date on the calendar — 9.20.24 — with its ZIP Code — 92024.
The alignment of calendar dates with ZIP Codes occurs only once a century and in relatively few locations nationwide.
The alignment will be marked by the sale of special commemorative envelopes at the Encinitas Post Office that feature a “92024 Date Meets ZIP” postmark, as depicted above. The special postmark will also be available at that office to cancel mailable items presented by customers.
Encinitas residents are invited to visit their Post Office to enjoy refreshments, obtain the commemorative cancellation and purchase the special envelopes, which will be available while supplies last.
“We’re excited and honored to host this rare event,” said Encinitas Postmaster Chuck Thomsen. “It recognizes the unique ties between USPS and our community. As outlined in USPS’s Delivering for America plan, we are committed to serving the changing needs of our customers nationwide.”

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
