Tanya Toedt Fitzharris is 27th to Oversee Postal Operations in the City
SAN DIEGO – Tanya Toedt Fitzharris was recently installed as the 27th Postmaster for the city of San Diego by the Postmaster General of the U.S. Postal Service.
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy administered the official USPS Oath of Office to Toedt Fitzharris in a special ceremony in front of local USPS leaders, her husband Michael Fitzharris and a roomful of her family, friends and postal colleagues.
As San Diego postmaster, Toedt Fitzharris oversees 1,800 employees and all mail delivery and retail operations at 39 postal facilities located in the city. In a typical day her employees deliver almost 650,000 pieces of mail to San Diego customers.
She replaces former San Diego Postmaster Lisa Baldwin, who retired.
Toedt Fitzharris is a 37-year postal employee who began her career as a mail carrier in Encinitas and then moved on to a supervisory role at that office. She went on to serve in progressively higher management positions at the Vista, Escondido, Oceanside, Riverside, San Diego and Sacramento Post Offices.
“My dream job has become a reality!” said Toedt Fitzharris. “I’m so honored and excited to have been selected for this position. I hope to further the Postal Service’s legacy of outstanding customer service, to support the development of my employees, and to contribute to the overall success of the organization.
“As outlined in USPS’s Delivering for America plan, we are modernizing and continually adapting to the changing needs of our customers. Our customers are priority one, whether they’re located in New York or Los Angeles, or anywhere in the great city of San Diego.
“I’m deeply grateful to former San Diego Postmaster Lisa Baldwin and my many postal mentors for their support and guidance, and to the leadership team at the USPS San Diego district office for giving me this opportunity.”
