Postal Service Honors Workforce During Exclusive Facility Opening Event in Whittier

Facility Opening Event

WHITTIER, CA- The U.S. Postal Service recently welcomed employees to an event celebrating the opening of the Whittier Sorting and Delivery Center (S&DC). This special event offered employees, and their families, a first-hand look at the Postal Service’s latest investments to increase operational precision, improve service performance, and enhance their workplace.

“These new, state-of-the-art facilities will help make the Postal Service more efficient, more capable, and more competitive for the future,” said Whittier Postmaster Jojo Olega. Postmaster Olega oversees five zips, 85 routes, 53,115 deliveries, and serves a population of 160,554 in the city of Whittier. An average of 7,000 packages are received daily for this community.

Supporting the Whittier postmaster is Supervisor and Project Lead Daniel Torres. Supervisor Torres worked behind the scenes to ensure all the components came together to make the open house a success.

“The investments we’ve made here in Whittier represent more than just simple upgrades; they represent a commitment to our employees, our customers, and the future of the Postal Service in Whittier,” he said. “I am very proud of what has been accomplished to bring us here.”

The modernized Whittier S&DC is one of 111 recently launched sorting and delivery centers across the nation, with approximately 300 more planned to open over the next few years. S&DCs are a culmination of the cultural change transforming the Postal Service, focused on innovation, collaboration, problem-solving and competition.

As the nation’s end-to-end carrier of choice, nearly $19 billion in investments have been made to revitalize the Postal Service’s national processing, transportation and delivery networks.

This sweeping operational overhaul to modernize the unrivaled USPS mail and package network is a core component of the organization’s journey to success. Improved facility conditions ensure long-term improvements in service performance and employee morale through better flow and improved productivity.

Additionally, continued investments in modern technology not only enhance operational precision and delivery efficiency but also foster a better working environment for employees, ensuring a safer and healthier workplace.

According to Whittier Post Office supervisor Nicole Mora, who is also a local resident, the transformation of the office and the installation of new machinery have increased employees’ enthusiasm to come to work and be ready to perform for the day.

“Having a new machine that can process our parcel volume in less than half the time eliminates manual handling of the mail,” she says with a smile. “This allows carriers to access our customers’ mail faster and hit the streets sooner—starting their day earlier, which helps it end earlier. And who doesn’t like that?”

These changes are part of more than $40 billion in strategic investments aimed at transforming USPS and create a high performing, financially stable organization capable of providing the American public with world-class service for decades to come.
