Background:

On December 3, 2020, Public Law No: 116-199 was passed to designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 5186 Benito Street in Montclair, California, as the "Paul Eaton Post Office Building."

In honor of his decades of dedicated public service the Postal Service acknowledges the remarkable contributions of former Mon Mayor Paul Eaton.

In 1954 Eaton began his path of service as a reservist with the Army National Guard.

Soon after settling in Montclair in 1965, he became a founding and appointed member of Montclair’s Community Action Committee, followed by an appointment to the Montclair Planning Commission in 1974, where he served until 1988 when he was appointed to the City Council.

In 1995, Council Member Eaton was unanimously appointed Mayor, a role he served until his retirement in 2018.

During his tenure as Mayor, the city of Montclair completed several major projects including a modern police facility, youth and senior centers and the widening of the Central Avenue/I-10 Freeway interchange.

In 2015, the League of California Cities, Inland Empire Division honored Mayor Eaton with its James S. Thalman Memorial Public Service Award—the ninth recipient of this distinguished honor given to local elected and appointed officials for outstanding efforts on behalf of their respective cities and the region.

Mayor Eaton passed away in July 2018, leaving behind his wife and former Mayor, Ginger, four children, nine grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
