Background:

On Friday, September 19th, in his 34th year as a postal employee, Henry de la Torre will be sworn in as Fresno Postmaster.

De La Torre began his postal career in Fresno, CA in 1991 as a letter carrier. He began his management career in 1997 as supervisor at Clinter Post Office and was later promoted to manager at Hughes Post Office in 2004. De La Torre has served in areas of increasing responsibility in the California 3 Postal District, most recently as Fresno Postmaster. He has been Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Certified.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to become Fresno Postmaster, this is the city that I call home and accomplishing this has been my professional life-long goal,” De La Torre said. “To me, being postmaster is a prestigious position that entails a high level of responsibility, commitment and integrity, not only to our customers, but to my employees as well. In my 34 years with the Postal Service, I’ve seen firsthand the role that we play in connecting neighbors and our community to the nation. I am therefore committed to doing the best job I possibly can for every Fresno resident. In addition, I aim to continue to provide stellar customer service by means of my expertly trained employees,” he said. The Postal Service is continually innovating to provide first-class service which can be seen in our Delivering for America 10-Year Plan.

De La Torre is married to his wife, Michelle. They have four children, Alyssa, Krista, Kaitlyn and Niko. During his downtime, he loves to travel and hike. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Telecommunications Management from Fresno State University. He is a proud member of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and volunteers regularly at his local church and charities in the greater Fresno area.

As Fresno Postmaster, De La Torre oversees over 725,000 pieces of mail delivered daily, while also servicing over 8,200 Post Office Box deliveries. He manages over 550 employees, 267 city routes, 45 rural routes, and five highway contract routes with a population of over 600,000.
