USPS Participates in 58th Annual Pacoima Holiday Parade

USPS Employees Educate Residents about Dog Safety in new NGDV

Working together we can stop the bite!

What:

The United States Postal Service is proud to participate in the 58th Annual Pacoima Holiday Parade in order to bring awareness to a public service issue.

During the parade, we will provide dog safety tips to residents that emphasize the need for increased responsibility in the prevention of dog attacks on our letter carriers.

In the last two years, Pacoima Post Office has seen a decrease in dog attacks on letter carriers because of safety tips given to residents.

Also get a sneak peek at the all new, all-electric Ford E-Transit vans as well as our Next Generation Delivery Vehicle (NGDV) debuting in the parade.

Background:

Pacoima Chamber of Commerce hosts its annual holiday parade. This year’s theme promotes unity in the community. The United States Postal Service is proud to participate and help educate the community on how to be a responsible dog owner.

How to Be a Responsible Dog Owner

  • Obedience training can teach dogs proper behavior and help owners control their dog in any situation.

When a letter carrier comes to the home, keep dogs:

  • Inside the house or behind a fence.
  • Away from the door.
  • In another room or
  • On a leash.
  • Dogs can be protective of their territory and may interpret the actions of letter carriers as a threat. Take precautions when accepting mail in the presence of your pet.
  • Dogs that haven’t been properly socialized, receive little attention or handling, or are left tied up for long periods frequently turn into biters.
