On Tuesday, January 13th, in his 35th year as a postal employee, Raj Khahera will be sworn in as Oakland Postmaster.

Khahera began his postal career in Moraga, CA in 1991 as letter carrier. He began his management career in 2007 as supervisor at Alamo Post office. Over the next three decades, through hard work, commitment and a people first attitude, he was later promoted to areas of increasing responsibility at every level of postal operations, in nearly every city in the Bay Area. He is a graduate of both the Management Essential for Field Leadership and Management Leadership Program Class 53, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certified and a facilitator for USPS Frontline Supervisor Program.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to become Oakland’s Postmaster,” said Khahera. “To me being a postmaster means holding the power to connect communities, bridge distances, and deliver dreams. My mission is to forge a seamless network of trust with efficiency, so that every package arrives with care, every letter finds its way home, and every customer’s smile illuminates our purpose.”

Khahera is married to his wife, Gurjeet. They have three children, Serena, Ayesha and Ishaan. During his downtime, he enjoys golfing, long walks by the Bay with his family and dog, Milo, as well as traveling with his loved ones. He volunteers with his children’s sports teams; from coaching his daughter’s soccer team to his son’s football team, where is affectionately known as Papa Raj.

As Oakland Postmaster, Khahera oversees 475 employees who process and deliver a daily mail volume of over 341,787 pieces to 206,482 addresses, 280 delivery routes and 16,932 Post Office Boxes serving a population of over 440,000.
