LOS ANGELES — The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) recently welcomed employees to an event celebrating the opening of the Bicentennial Sorting and Delivery Center (S&DC). The special event offered employees a first look at the Postal Service’s latest investments to improve service performance, enhance workplace conditions, and support faster, more reliable last-mile delivery in Los Angeles and beyond.
Thanks to nearly $21 billion investments to the national postal network over the past five years, USPS recently reported significant improvements during the holiday season surge, delivering 16 billion pieces of mail and packages in an average of 2.5 days, with better on-time delivery and higher customer satisfaction across the country.
“For customers and businesses here in Los Angeles, this new Sorting and Delivery Center will improve outcomes for our community, strengthening daily delivery while helping our teams work more safely and efficiently,” said Gary Marquez, Station Manager, Bicentennial Post Office. “Investments like these represent more than a physical upgrade; they reflect a commitment to our employees, our customers, and the future of the Postal Service.”
The Bicentennial S&DC serves 79,912 customers across the 90048-zip code, including 59,310 centralized routes. In California writ large, the Postal Service employs more than 55,600 men and women and serves more than 15,327,150 addresses, six and often seven days a week.
Sorting and Delivery Centers support a modern delivery model
As USPS expands its role as the nation’s end-to-end carrier of choice, the creation of Sorting and Delivery Centers has been a core part of transformation and modernization efforts. Over recent years, USPS has opened more than 150 S&DCs across the country, positioning the organization for success by:
