MODESTO, CA – On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Modesto Hudson Post Office, located at 2300 Sylvan Avenue, will be dedicated to honor Corporal Michael D. Anderson Jr. at 10:00 a.m. “We are very proud to have this facility honor the life and bravery of Corporal Michael D. Anderson Jr.,” said Santa Clarita District Manager Al Santos.
Santos will be joined at the ceremony by Representative Tom McClintock (CA-05), Lieutenant Colonel Andrew McNulty, the Anderson family, and other dignitaries to unveil the building naming plaque that will be installed in the Post Office lobby.
Representative Tom McClintock’s legislation to rename the Modesto Hudson Post Office at 2300 Sylvan Avenue to the “Corporal Michael D. Anderson Jr. Post Office Building” was officially signed into law by former President Biden (H.R. 1555) on January 2, 2025.
Michael Anderson Jr. grew up in Modesto, CA. In 2001, he graduated from Johansen High School with a bright future ahead of him. But, in September of that year, America was attacked. Without hesitation, he stepped forward and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps to help defend his country, where he quickly became a leader and distinguished himself.
He was a member of the Fleet Antiterrorism Security Teams, or FAST Company, an elite Marine Corp team designed to fight terror around the world. He received a letter of commendation from the U.S. Ambassador. In September 2004, Corporal Anderson deployed to Iraq. Eleven days before Christmas, on December 14, 2004, he was tragically killed in action. He was twenty-one years old.
Young Corporal Anderson showed tremendous bravery and courage as evidenced by his two Purple Hearts, the Marine Corps Achievement Medal with the “V” for Valor as well as the Combat Action Ribbon and many other award citations.
He is survived by his parents, Angela and Michael Sr, as well as his two little sisters, Callie and Allie.
