Background:

On Friday, May 15th, in his 43rd year as a postal employee, Richard Garcia will be sworn in as Bakersfield Postmaster.

Garcia began his postal career in Oxnard, CA as a clerk in 1983. Two years later, he began his management career as a supervisor. During his career Garcia was promoted to areas of increasing importance in Santa Barbara, Ojai, Clovis, Tulare and many other cities.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to become Bakersfield Postmaster, my goal is to continue to provide stellar customer service by means of my expertly trained employees,” Garcia said. “I believe leadership is a responsibility, I take that responsibility seriously and I will continue to not only serve my staff, but also the Bakersfield community.”

Garcia is married to his wife, Renee. They have three adult daughters, Cameron, Kaylin and Nicolette. In his downtime, he enjoys going to estate sales, drawing, painting, riding motorcycles and working on vintage cars. He has volunteered with food banks with the Salvation Army and Catholic charities. They currently reside in Sanger, CA.

As Bakersfield Postmaster, Garcia oversees over 313,000 pieces of mail delivered daily to 219,651 delivery addresses, servicing over 8,760 Post Office Box deliveries. He manages 539 employees, 184 city routes, 96 ruralroutes, three highway contract routes, with a population of over 423,500.
