Background:

The United States Postal Service Western Pacific Area will formally swear in Neil Gonzalez as PCES Postmaster of Sacramento, California, in a ceremony at the California State Capitol on July 14, 2026. The occasion marks a defining milestone for one of the USPS's most decorated leaders — a 28-year postal veteran whose career spans nearly every level of postal operations, culminating in a national award, completed executive training, and an appointment to lead one of California's most vital postal districts.

Gonzalez was selected as PCES Postmaster of Sacramento effective April 5, 2025, by WestPac Area Vice President Eduardo H. Ruiz Jr. In June 2026, he completed the USPS Executive Foundations Program, adding executive leadership development to an already extraordinary career portfolio ahead of his formal swearing-in.

His path to Sacramento is among the most comprehensive in the WestPac Area. Gonzalez began his USPS career in 1998 as a Mail Handler at the Oakland Processing and Distribution Center. Over the next 28 years, he advanced through an exceptional range of leadership roles including Supervisor, Customer Services; Supervisor, Distribution Operations; Manager, Customer Services in Livermore and Stockton; District Safety Engagement Leader; Postmaster of Turlock, CA; Host Postmaster; Manager, Post Office Operations for the California 2, California 5, and California 3 districts; and A/Executive Postmaster. He was Postmaster of Fresno, California, effective December 31, 2022, and served an executive detail as Postmaster of Portland, Oregon, effective March 23, 2024, before being tapped for the Sacramento role.

In October 2025, Gonzalez was honored as PCES Postmaster of the Year for Fiscal Year 2025, a national recognition presented by Elvin Mercado, Chief Retail and Delivery Officer and Executive Vice President of the United States Postal Service.

His professional mission has remained constant across every assignment: achieve continuous customer service improvement, customer satisfaction, and cost reduction all while keeping his employees safe.

"The Postal Service has always been something far greater than mail delivery," said Gonzalez. "We are the original social network — the infrastructure that connects neighbors, bridges communities, and ensures that no address is left behind. That mission doesn't change. It deepens."

Gonzalez leads with a philosophy he calls the life priority hierarchy — the conviction that sustainable professional excellence is built on a foundation of health first, family second, and work as the expression of both. "You cannot give your community your best if you haven't first taken care of yourself and the people who carry you," he said.

He credits his family as the anchor of everything he has built personally and professionally.

Gonzalez holds an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Heald College. He is a 2013 graduate of the USPS Managerial Leadership Program, a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, and a USPS Engagement Ambassador.

As PCES Postmaster, Gonzalez will oversee postal operations for the Sacramento district within the WestPac CA 2 area, serving hundreds of thousands of residents and businesses across the region.

Sacramento City covers 100 square miles, with a customer population of over 535,000, with 1,011 employees, 423 city routes, 126 rural routes and nearly 20,000 post office boxes.
