Post Office Commemorates Crafting Memories event with pictorial cancellation and letter-writing station
PASADENA, CA — On Sunday, Oct. 11, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Pasadena Post Office, in collaboration with the Pasadena Museum of History, will offer a commemorative keepsake postmark in celebration of Route 66 and the Crafting Memories community event held at the museum.
The event is free and open to the public and will be held at the Pasadena Museum of History located at 470 W Walnut St, Pasadena, CA 91103.
Postal officials, including the Postmaster of Pasadena Brenton Schaeffer, along with representatives from the Pasadena Museum of History, will also showcase the Route 66 Forever Stamp at a special unveiling during the event at noon.
Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase stamps and commemorate the day with a special pictorial cancellation. The Postal Service will also host a letter-writing station to help attendees craft handwritten letters, celebrate local history, and send their letters.
The cancellation will also be available at the Pasadena Post Office for 30 days following the event.
Customers unable to visit in person may obtain the postmark by mail. For one or more postmarks, affix the minimum of a First-Class stamp to an envelope or postcard, address the envelope or postcard to yourself or to others, insert a card of thickness in the envelope(s), and tuck in the flap(s). “It is an honor to celebrate Route 66 in Pasadena with this special commemorative stamp and cancellation,” said Schaeffer. “I can't think of a better way to craft memories than by crafting a letter from the heart to someone you love.”
Background
Route 66, established Nov. 11, 1926, originally stretched about 2,400 miles from Chicago to Los Angeles and became a symbol of freedom and adventure. USPS is marking the highway’s 100th anniversary with stamps featuring photography by David Schwartz, with Greg Breeding serving as art director.
The images showcase landmarks from each of the eight states through which the highway passes. The pane of 16 stamps captures the character of what John Steinbeck famously coined, “the Mother Road.”
