As the Bomb Cyclone storm rolls through Colorado, the Postal Service is asking residents to remember their letter carriers, who are out in full force.
Post Offices in the region are open. All mail is sent out for delivery each day and carriers are doing their best to deliver when safe.
“To allow us to provide the best service possible, we need a little help,” said USPS Colorado/Wyoming District Manager Kevin Romero.
“We appreciate your assistance, your good will and your patience when the weather turns rough,” said Romero.
- Customers are asked to clear enough snow from curbside boxes so the carrier may approach, deliver the mail and leave without danger or backing the vehicle.
- Walkways need to be cleared so as to allow enough traction to avoid slips, trips and falls.
- Steps – especially painted wood — must be kept clear of ice and snow and in good repair.
- Remove potential trip hazards from steps, porches and designated package drop areas.
- Letter carriers are on the front line of severe weather conditions. Doorstep deliveries, painted porches and steps quickly grow hazardous. While salting and rubber-backed mats help, we rely on residents to clear the snow. If there’s a warm spell, and the melting snow puddles, a quick freeze can make a sidewalk slick again.
- Residents who receive delivery to roadside mailboxes also must keep the approach to, and exit from, the mailbox clear of snow or any other obstacles, like trash cans and other vehicles.
- Also, please watch for slow-moving postal vehicles, carriers on foot, and children that play near mailboxes or snow banks and don’t zip by neighbors who are clearing mailboxes or collecting their mail. Let’s all stay safe.
