Since William Durand was appointed as Milford’s first Postmaster in 1795, there has been only one other woman in the city’s history to serve as Postmaster. This Thursday, the United States Postal Service will swear in the second woman and the first African-American as Postmaster in 224 years.
The traditional installation ceremony includes a public oath of office that says, in part, I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.
Rosa DeLauro, U.S. Representative for Connecticut’s 3rd Congressional District and the city of Milford, has written a letter to be presented in her absence, congratulating Ms. Sherrod on her historical appointment.
Mayor Benjamin Blake of Milford is scheduled to offer remarks.
