Waterbury, CT swore in its first Postmaster (Colonel William Leavenworth) in 1803 and that year, the city got its first Post Office. The current Waterbury Post Office was completed in 1931 and was designed by George Oakley Totten. In 1971, the building was renamed to the John S. Monagan Federal Building and expanded to accommodate the District Federal Court and several agencies.

The Postal Service continues that proud tradition with its latest inductee, Postmaster John Degumbia when he takes the Oath of Office.

Degumbia’s oversight includes six individual Post Offices in the region (two retail offices and four retail and delivery offices). These offices include 102 postal carrier routes, 239 employees and 150 vehicles.
