WASHINGTON, DC — Edward B. Williamson has been appointed the Executive Postmaster for Washington, DC, effective Saturday, May 7th.
As the Washington, DC Postmaster, Williamson will be responsible for overseeing more than 1,400 postal employees working at 58 stations and branches serving an estimated population of 690,000 people with more than 372,000 delivery points.
“It’s a great honor to serve as the new Washington, DC, Postmaster,” Williamson said.
Ed began his 27-year postal career as a City Carrier for the Fort Washington, MD Post Office. In 2002, he entered the management ranks as an Associate Supervisor in the former Capital District. In addition to serving as the Officer-in-Charge, Washington, DC, he has served as Officer-in-Charge, Baltimore, MD and Richmond, VA. Ed has also served as Manager, Operations Programs Support, Capital District. He has extensive experience in both operations and customer service, has excelled in multiple performance measurement initiatives and is committed to developing future leaders for our organization.
He is a graduate of the Managerial Leadership Program and the Processing and Distribution Management Program and is currently enrolled in the Advanced Leadership Program. Ed is also Lean Six Sigma Green Belt trained.
Williamson will be the 39th Postmaster since the District of Columbia was established on December 1, 1800. He has been the acting Washington, DC, Postmaster for the past seven months and has already made positive changes with a focus on providing service excellence.
“Although our customers may have experienced challenges in the past, I am committed to providing improved service to the community through the implementation of the Postal Service’s Delivering for America 10-year plan here in Washington, DC,” Williamson added.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
