State-of-the-Art Package Sorters to Deliver Holidays

USPS Invites Media to Tour Opa-locka Mail Processing

Miami, FL — The U.S. Postal Service is preparing for the holiday season and is ready to meet the growing customer demand for package delivery. One of 112 new package sorters distributed nationwide has been installed in the Royal Palm Processing and Distribution Center, 5500 NW 142 Street in Opa-locka to provide more reliable service that customers expect through the holiday season and beyond.

Plant Manager Robert Johnson invites media representatives to observe the dedicated employees who operate this state-of-the-art package sorting equipment on Tuesday, November 30, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. RSVP to debbie.j.fetterly@usps.gov no later than Close of Business (COB) Monday, November 29. Due to safety requirements, closed-toed, low-heeled shoes must be worn. Due to the pandemic, please wear a mask.

Last year’s holiday season was like no other both for the U.S. Postal Service and its customers. Package delivery grew nearly 48 percent, driven by the surge in online shopping and ecommerce due to the COVID pandemic.

The U.S. Postal Service has been preparing since February for the 2021 holiday season. The Postmaster General’s “Delivering for America” 10-year Plan, which modernizes the U.S. Postal Service, was implemented to achieve financial sustainability and service excellence. The U.S. Postal Service is investing $40 billion on people, technology, and equipment to modernize its operations and to provide world-class service to its customers. Each new package sorter processes up to 3,000 packages per hour and will help achieve long-term service improvements.
