Manages USPS services for Howey in the Hills and Yalaha communities
HOWEY IN THE HILLS, FL – For 29 years, Pedro Mendez had been "Delivering for America" as a rural carrier, supervisor, and now Howey in the Hills Postmaster.
Mendez is responsible for delivery and retail operations in this community of about 2,000 and Yalaha Post Offices. Combined, the two offices have 486 P.O. Boxes and more than 2,300 business and residential delivery points. He supervises seven employees.
"I find it rewarding, managing two offices and dealing with the everyday work required to run an operation," says Mendez.
"As outlined in the Postal Service's ‘Delivering for America’ plan, we provide excellent service by delivering for our customers and gaining business opportunities," he says.
"Every employee must serve customers in a professional and friendly way, making sure what they are mailing and receiving is delivered on time whether the employee works in retail, delivery, processing, transportation, or maintenance," he says. "That's what ‘Delivering for America’ means to me."
Mendez is an Army veteran. He is married to Ivette Mendez. The couple just celebrated their 32nd anniversary. They have a son Joshua Mendez, a daughter, Sasha Mendez-Clayton, and six grandchildren. His hobbies include swimming and spending time with his family.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations.
