Passionate, friendly, caring and ready to assist customers
DUNEDIN, FL – When Craig Haumann was looking for a career with a company that offered a good salary and benefits, as well as advancement opportunities, he knew exactly where to turn – the United States Postal Service.
During the past 24 years, he’s risen through the ranks, starting as a letter carrier in St. Petersburg and now serving as postmaster at the Dunedin Post Office in Pinellas County.
"Today, I manage about 60 employees," he says. "We have approximately 20,000 business and residential deliveries plus retail operations. We also serve 2,900 Post Office Box customers.”
"I came to the Postal Service because I was between jobs and it turned out to be one of the best career moves I ever made,” says Haumann, who grew up in the Midwest and lived in New York before relocating to the Sunshine State in 1984. He has also worked as a supervisor and manager of customer services, supervisor of vehicle maintenance and served as postmaster in Safety Harbor, FL.
Haumann has seen many changes at the Postal Service during his career. One that comes to mind right away is Informed Delivery, a free notification feature that allows users to digitally preview their incoming mail and manage packages from their computers or mobile devices. Another are the hand-held scanners used by letter carriers that alert them if a dog is present at an address. “There’s definitely a lot more transparency and a lot more tools available to both employees and customers,” he said.
"We deliver for America," he concludes. "It's about customer service, retail services, and delivery, and we do an excellent job of all three."

The United States Postal Service is an independent federal establishment, mandated to be self-financing and to serve every American community through the affordable, reliable and secure delivery of mail and packages to 169 million addresses six and often seven days a week. Overseen by a bipartisan Board of Governors, the Postal Service is implementing a 10-year transformation plan, Delivering for America, to modernize the postal network, restore long-term financial sustainability, dramatically improve service across all mail and shipping categories, and maintain the organization as one of America’s most valued and trusted brands.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
