SANIBEL, FL — As part of the United States Postal Service’s “For the Long Haul” initiative, we are proud to celebrate Laura Defeo, a dedicated Retail Associate, who has faithfully served the Sanibel, FL community for over 29 years. Laura’s unwavering commitment and exceptional service have made her a beloved figure in the neighborhood she serves.
“For the Long Haul” is an initiative designed to honor the remarkable dedication of long-serving employees like Laura, who have become integral parts of their communities. Over the years, Laura has developed lasting relationships with her customers and has become a familiar face to countless customers. She knows all the customers and their dogs by name and truly treats them like family.
Laura Defeo began her career with USPS in 1995 at the Sanibel Post Office and is also an artist who has created and donated many original art works. During the aftermath of Hurricane Ian, an alligator, later named “Mailigator” was found inside the Post Office. The story spread like wildfire and inspired Laura to create a “Mailigator” art piece, sold as prints and t-shirts, with all proceeds benefitting the Sanibel community.
Sanibel Postmaster Conor McCallister expressed his appreciation for Laura’s invaluable contributions to the success of the Postal Service. “Laura is a great employee and person. She takes pride in her work both in the office and in her art and it shows. We are very lucky to have her here.”
The United States Postal Service has been an essential part of American life since its inception. Committed to providing reliable, affordable mail service to every address in the country, USPS plays a crucial role in maintaining communication and commerce across the nation.
