U.S. Postal Service to Offer Job Opportunities At ‘Paychecks for Patriots’ Career Fair Nov.14

SOUTH FLORIDA —  The U.S. Postal Service is seeking hard-working, self-motivated individuals for various positions and locations in South Florida. The U.S. Postal Service is attending the “Paychecks for Patriots” career fair on Thursday, November 14, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at the Tamarac Community Center, at 8601 W Commercial Blvd, Tamarac, FL 33351.

Local postal management team members will be onsite to share information about available jobs and to assist with the online application process. If you are unable to attend the career fair, you still may apply for the below positions. Please note the application window for each. Following are job descriptions:

MAINTENANCE MECHANIC – MIAMI, FL
Application Window: Today through November 15
Annual Salary: $56,830

A Maintenance Mechanic will independently perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance tasks associated with the upkeep and operation of various types of mail processing, buildings and building equipment, customer service and delivery equipment. Job duties include performing maintenance and routine repairs such as plumbing, heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning; performing maintenance and routine repairs on simple control circuitry, bearings, chains, motors, belts, and other parts of equipment; assembling, installing, replacing, repairing,  modifying, or adjusting small operating equipment; performing tasks related to disassembling equipment, replacing parts, relocating and reassembling equipment.

ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN – MIAMI, FL

Annual Salary: $74,772

As an Electronic Technician, you will apply advanced technical knowledge to perform a  full range of diagnostic, preventative maintenance, alignment and calibration and overhaul tasks on both hardware and software for a variety of mail processing, customer service, and building equipment and systems. If you are looking to apply your previous technical knowledge to the mail operating system, this job could be right for you. Job duties include performing complex testing, diagnosis and maintenance of electronically operated equipment or systems; locating source of and correct malfunctions to ensure maximum system performance; performing equipment inspections to assess quality of service or maintenance received; recommending improvements to servicing and maintenance activities, as well as analyzing equipment failures to ensure proper degree of equipment maintenance.

AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN – (career position) – MIAMI & WEST PALM BEACH, FL

Annual Salary: $63,658

In this role, you will perform both routine and complex repairs and maintenance on all types of motor vehicles in the postal fleet. You will troubleshoot and diagnose more complex vehicle malfunctions and may assist lower-level employees. Job duties will include diagnosing vehicles and performing operational checks on engines, major supporting systems, parts and components; performing various computerized and electronic diagnostic tests using specialized equipment; preparing and updating vehicle records, annotating labor time, and managing work orders; and conducting visual and auditory vehicle inspections, road calls, and road tests.

LABORER CUSTODIAL – PEMBROKE PINES, FL

In this role, you will perform manual labor in connection with maintenance and cleaning of buildings and grounds of a postal facility. Job duties will include performing janitorial duties such as cleaning, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing floors; caring for lawns and shrubs, cleaning sidewalks and driveways; operating a variety of power- driven equipment such as floor scrubbers, floor sanders, waxers, and wall washers; stacking supplies in storage rooms and on shelves; moving furniture and equipment; performing general laboring duties such as uncrating and assembling furniture and fixtures, loading and unloading supplies and equipment; making or assisting in making minor maintenance repairs to building and equipment.

RURAL CARRIER ASSOCIATE (RCA) - KEY LARGO, FL

At $20.38 per hour, an RCA will have to be able to work a flexible schedule and be available to work throughout the week (Sunday through Saturday). This position could be ideal if one is looking for steady employment with career advancement opportunities. An RCA serves families and businesses in rural and suburban areas. This employee is responsible for the delivery and collection of mail; working when regular carriers have scheduled days off or vacation days. An RCA also sells stamps, supplies, and addresses customer inquiries about their mail delivery service. An applicant must have a valid state driver's license and demonstrate and maintain a safe driving record. (At least two years of unsupervised experience is also a requirement). A personal vehicle suitable for use delivering mail/packages may be required. Becoming an RCA is the first step to becoming a full-time, regular rural carrier with full benefits.

ASSISTANT RURAL CARRIER (ARC) - SUMMERLAND KEY, FL

At $20.38 per hour, this employee will deliver and collect packages along routes in rural and suburban areas and will provide a variety of services to customers along an assigned route. The successful applicant may be required to provide their own vehicle for package delivery. As an ARC, you will provide service to your community on weekends and holidays or up to seven days each week; whichever suits your lifestyle. If you enjoy working outdoors, while keeping your week free, this position may be a great fit for you. This would be a perfect part-time position for retirees, night students, self-employed individuals, or at-home parent.
