COCOA, FL — As part of the United States Postal Service’s “For the Long Haul” initiative, we are proud to celebrate Douglas Quinn, a dedicated Retail Associate, who has faithfully served the Cocoa, FL community and USPS for over 50 years. Douglas’ unwavering commitment and exceptional service have made him a beloved figure in the neighborhood he serves.

“For the Long Haul” is an initiative designed to honor the remarkable dedication of long-serving employees like Douglas, who have become integral parts of their communities. Over the years, he has developed lasting relationships with his customers and has become a familiar face to countless customers.

Douglas Quinn began his career with USPS in January of 1975 at the Hollywood, FL Post Office. During his career, he has performed many duties and assignments, but one of his highlights is that he ran a Mobile Post Unit in 1990. He said that running the Mobile Unit was his greatest professional achievement because he was able to go out into the community to serve people and attend career days to share a version of the Post Office with school-aged children.

Another milestone for Quinn is that he was picked to participate in an Olympic torch and run down the Hollywood Beach in 1992. He was also chosen as a postal employee to participate in the Orange Bowl Parade in 1989.

“When I first started, we sorted everything by hand —flats, letters, parcels, loading and unloading trucks, and dumping mail on conveyor belts. You had to know two schemes to throw mail and parcels. It was a different time 50 years ago, that would have been very challenging for the newer employees.”

Cocoa, FL Postmaster Robert Dean expressed his appreciation for Douglas’s invaluable contributions to the success of the Postal Service. “Douglas is truly an extraordinary individual—his dedication and passion shine through both his exceptional work ethic and his genuine care for his community.
