Honokaa Resident Hopes to Strengthen Bonds Between USPS & Community
HONOKAA – Kim Asuncion was recently named the Postmaster of the Honokaa Post Office.
Asuncion replaces former Honokaa Postmaster Gavin Sakagawa, who recently transferred to a position at the USPS Hawaii District office.
As Honokaa Postmaster, Asuncion supervises six employees and oversees retail services at the Honokaa Post Office and the daily distribution of mail on one delivery route and to more than 1,600 PO Boxes at her facility.
Asuncion is a 21-year postal employee who began her career as a clerk at the Kamuela Post Office and most recently served as a clerk at the Captain Cook and Honokaa Post Offices.
“It’s truly an honor and a privilege to step into this position and to be able to serve Honokaa, the community in which I was born and raised,” said Asuncion. “I hope to continue the Postal Service’s legacy of outstanding customer service to this community, to increase the office’s engagement with our customers, and to contribute to the overall success of the organization.
“As outlined in USPS’s Delivering for America plan, we are modernizing and continually adapting to the changing needs of our customers. Our customers are priority one, whether they’re located in the biggest cities or smaller communities such as Honokaa.
“I want to thank my family, my coworkers and former Honokaa Postmaster Gavin Sakagawa for their support throughout my postal career. I’m also grateful to the leadership team at the USPS Hawaii District office for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”
Asuncion was born and raised in Honokaa and is a graduate of Honokaa High School. Her hobbies include spending time with her family, reading, camping and card games.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations
