HONOLULU – Kevin Nakaoka was recently named the Postmaster of the city of Honolulu.

Nakaoka replaces former Honolulu Postmaster Kenji Higaki, who recently retired.

As Honolulu Postmaster, Nakaoka supervises more than 600 employees and the operations of the 18 U.S. Postal Service facilities located in Honolulu. Those facilities range from Hawaii Kai to Pearl Harbor, including the Main Post Office near the Daniel Inouye International Airport.

Nakaoka is a 24-year postal employee who began his career as a mail carrier at the Kapalama Post Office and most recently served as the manager of operation integrations for the USPS Hawaii District office.

I’m proud and honored to step into this position and to be able to serve Honolulu, the community in which I was born,” said Nakaoka. “I hope to continue the Postal Service’s legacy of outstanding customer service to this community, to increase the office’s engagement with our customers, and to contribute to the overall success of the organization.

“As outlined in USPS’s Delivering for America plan, we are modernizing and continually adapting to the changing needs of our customers. Our customers are priority one, whether they’re located in New York or Niu Valley.

“I want to thank my family and my coworkers for their support throughout my postal career. I’m also grateful to the leadership team at the USPS Hawaii District office for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”

Nakaoka was born in Honolulu and raised in Mililani. He is a graduate of Mililani High School and received a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His primary hobby is spending time with his family, including his three children.

The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to fund its operations
