USPS Honors Hawaii’s First-Ever 5-Star Post Offices for Labor Day

Ewa Beach & Waialae Kahala are Two out of Only 26 Honored Nationwide

HONOLULU, HI — The U.S. Postal Service is marking Labor Day in Hawaii by recognizing the five-star efforts of its retail employees at the Ewa Beach and Waialae-Kahala Post Offices. The two offices were recently recognized as Hawaii’s first-ever 5-Star Banner Post Offices.

Ewa Beach and Waialae were two of only 26 postal facilities across the nation that earned the 5-Star Banner designation, which recognizes the stellar customer service efforts of USPS retail clerks.

“The goal of our retail teams is to provide positive experiences for every customer,” said USPS Retail Experience Specialist Misty Wilhelm. “The 5-Star banner program highlights those offices that go above and beyond to provide world-class service to their customers.”

The 5-Star Banner program honors post offices whose retail employees achieve high scores across a variety of  customer service indicators measured by USPS, including a “mystery shopper” program, customer surveys and social media comments.

“The feedback we receive from these indicators is essential to the success of our organization,” Wilhelm said. “It helps our retail teams understand the role they play in building customer loyalty and helps us to identify and recognize post offices that actively engage with and proudly serve our valued customers.

“As a former Ewa Beach Post Office employee, I can attest that its retail clerks have a true customer-centric mindset. They treat all of their customers like special guests. Their postmaster, retail supervisor, and entire retail team strive for excellence in every customer encounter.”

“This recognition is a testament to the great group of employees that we have at the Waialae-Kahala Post Office,” said Honolulu Postmaster Kevin Nakaoka. “I’m proud of every member of our Waialae postal ohana. They always go the extra mile do their jobs, with a smile and with aloha.”

Post offices recognized by the USPS 5-Star Banner program receive lapel pins for their retail clerks along with special signage proudly proclaiming their 5-star status.
