This year marks the 50th anniversary of Des Moines Postmaster John P. McNerney and Postmaster General W. Marvin Watson depositing a metal cylinder containing 32 mementos representing 1968 in a Cornerstone Sealing Ceremony.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
