Congressman and USPS Officials to Honor Lawrence M. “Larry” Walsh Sr.

Friday, June 2 at 10:00 am Ceremony at Elwood IL Post Office

CHICAGO, IL — The Elwood Post Office will have its building named in honor of Lawrence M. “Larry” Walsh Sr. at a ceremony Friday June 2, at 10 a.m. at the Elwood Post Office 60421.  The Elwood Post Office is located at 303 E. Mississippi Ave. The ceremony is open to the public.

Representative Bill Foster, Illinois 11th District introduced a bill in December 2022 to designate that location as “Lawrence M. Larry Walsh Sr. Post Office.”

Joining Rep. Foster at the ceremony will be USPS Illinois 2 District, Customer Relations Manager, Bernice Joseph.

“Larry Walsh Sr. was an active and dedicated member of the community, passionately serving and contributing to many non-profit, business, and government organization boards and committees. On June 2, we celebrate this fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to local government and his community,” said USPS Dedicating official Bernice Joseph.

Walsh was a dedicated family man, a devoted farmer, and a public servant to the people who live and work in his community. He brought a voice to disability issues, senior citizens’ services, preservation and agricultural concerns; always looking to improve quality of life. He first began his career in public service as a member of the Elwood School Board and continued to serve his community as an elected Jackson Township Supervisor, a member of the Will County Board, and an Illinois State Senator, representing the 43rd District. Larry finished his career in public service as the Will County Executive, a position he held since being elected in 2004.
