Watseka, IL Post Office Building Renaming Ceremony

Act of Congress designates facility as “Jeremy C. Sherman” Post Office Building.

WATSEKA, IL — The Watseka IL Post Office will have its building named in honor of Army Sgt. Jeremy C. Sherman at a ceremony, Monday, October 30 at 10 a.m. at the Watseka Theatre at 218 E. Walnut St.

On December 29, 2022, legislation to designate the Post Office building located at 101 West Walnut Street in Watseka, Illinois, as the Sgt. Jeremy C. Sherman Post Office Building was signed into law by the President. This legislation was introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Rep. Adam Kinzinger.

Joining Congresswoman, Robin L. Kelly and the Sherman family at the ceremony, will be USPS Manager of Post Office Operations, Towanna Murphy, John Allhands, Mayor of Watseka, and Bernice Joseph, USPS Manager of Customer Relations.

Jeremy Sherman joined the Army and began his service in August 2015. He was born on January 6,1997 in Covington, TN.  Jeremy was a 2015 graduate of Watseka Community High School.  Sgt. Sherman passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2020 in Egypt.  His decorations included the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Award, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.

Jeremy served in South Korea, Afghanistan, and a short time in Egypt.
