CHICAGO IL – The Stamp Out Hunger food drive is back for its 33rd Year!
The annual Food Drive is on Saturday, May 10. Each year, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes on the second Saturday in May to collect donations of non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries. Since launching in 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has grown into the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States. Food collected by each postal station from the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, stays local and goes to pantries within the station’s zip code area.
A kick-off event will be held Tuesday morning, at 10 a.m. May 6 at the NALC Building at 3850 S. Wabash Ave. Among those expected to attend and speak are NALC President Elise Foster, acting Chicago Postmaster, Holly Burrow, local sponsors and supporters from United Food and Commercial Workers and the Chicago Federation of Labor.
In the more than 30 years since it began, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has collected approximately 1.9 billion pounds of food for those in need.
