Act of Congress designates facility as ”Corporal Matthew A. Wyatt Post Office“
What:
The Millstadt, IL Post Office will have its building named in honor of United States Marine Corporal, Matthew A. Wyatt at a ceremony, Friday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m. The program is open to the public.
Who:
On January 3, 2024, legislation to designate the Post Office building located at 20 West White St. in Millstadt, Illinois, as the “Corporal Matthew A. Wyatt Post Office” building was signed into law by the President. This legislation was introduced in the United States House of Representatives by Rep. Mike Bost.
Joining Rep. Bost at the ceremony will be participation of local Patriot Guards and Color Guard, USPS Illinois 2 District Manager, Tangela Bush, Post Office Operations Manager, Jeff Hamilton, and Bernice Joseph, Illinois 2 District Customer Relations Manager.

Background:
Corporal Matthew A. Wyatt grew up in Millstadt and attended Belleville West High School. Following in his father's footsteps, he joined the United States Marine Corps six weeks after his high school graduation in June 2001. Corporal Wyatt graduated from basic training and served with 5th Battalion, 10th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. On December 3, 2004, Corporal Wyatt was killed stopping a suicide bomber’s truck packed with 600 pounds of explosives at the gates of his Forward Operating Base in Al Anbar Province, Iraq.
