Plainville Post Office to Reopen January 29

INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Good news for the residents of Plainville in Daviess County.

On January 29, 2018, the new Plainville Post Office at 868 N 2nd Street will open its doors to the public at 8 a.m. The new Post Office replaces the downtown office that was storm damaged in June 2015.  Because of safety concerns for customers and employees, the Postal Service temporarily closed the Plainville Post Office at 203 E. Main Street on June 17, 2015. Subsequently, the landlord decided the structure was beyond repair and had it demolished, so the Postal Service built a new Post Office at another location.

“We are so pleased to be back in business in Plainville,” said Plainville Postmaster Brenda Devine. “I would like to apologize to all our customers for any inconvenience caused, and am looking forward to seeing them again on Monday when we reopen. It’s a brand-new office and we also have a lower counter to accommodate those in wheelchairs,” she said.

Since the Post Office closed, customers had to travel to the nearest office in Washington to retrieve their packages, while PO Box customers used a centralized mail unit to collect their mail.

“We are asking our PO Box customers to come to the new office where they can pick up their new box keys. As they will be updating their information, the box holder must come in person to pick up the keys,” Devine said.

The new Plainville Post Office will open from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturdays.

The Postal Service receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
