INDIANAPOLIS, IN — On Friday, November 9, 2018, Christi Johnson-Kennedy will be installed as Postmaster of Indianapolis. The mother of four will become the first African-American woman to serve in that position.
Johnson-Kennedy’s installation will take place at 11 a.m. at the Skyline Club, 1 American Square, 36th Floor, Indianapolis, IN 46282.
She has been with the Postal Service for 18 years starting as a mail handler at the Indianapolis Processing & Distribution Center, and subsequently converting to letter carrier in Indianapolis. Following her promotion to management, she served in several Indianapolis city stations as a customer services supervisor, and as a manager of Customer Services. In 2015, she was promoted as Postmaster of Greenwood, IN, and returned to Indianapolis the following year to serve as Manager, Customer Service Operations.
She is a native of Indianapolis, having attended St. Lawrence Catholic School and Lawrence North High School as well as Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) majoring in Criminal Justice.
She has a passion for young people. “As Postmaster, I have really enjoyed participating in the Marion County Library’s Summer Reading Programs, speaking to youth in Indianapolis Public Schools, and to local youth church groups around the city,” she said.
She is married to Tony Kennedy, and they have four children —Adrian, Brandon, Kailyn and Anthony.
“We love Indianapolis and love to do things as a family,” Johnson-Kennedy said. “We regularly visit the Indiana Museum of Art, the Eiteljorg Museum, the Indianapolis Zoo, the Indianapolis Children’s Museum and the Indiana State Museum, and we love local art, music and heritage festivals.”
