CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN – As part of the United States Postal Service "For the Long Haul" initiative, we are proud to celebrate Douglas Horlacher, a dedicated rural carrier who has faithfully served the Crawfordsville community for over 25 years. Doug's unwavering commitment and exceptional service have made him a beloved figure in the neighborhoods he serves.
"For the Long Haul" is an initiative designed to honor the remarkable dedication of long-serving employees like Doug, who have become integral parts of their communities. Over the years, Doug has developed lasting relationships with residents, going above and beyond to ensure their mail is delivered with care and reliability.
Doug Horlacher began his postal career in 1989 as a rural carrier assistant in Thorntown. In 1999, he became a rural carrier in Crawfordsville. Doug currently serves as a trainer for newly hired rural carrier assistants. In 2019, he was awarded the National Safety Council’s prestigious Million Mile Award, for drivers who have accumulated one-million miles or 30 years of driving without a preventable motor vehicle accident.
His dedication extends beyond his postal duties as he is also involved in church activities, along with his wife, Dianne.
“Doug believes his commitment to ensuring timely and accurate delivery of mail to his customers contributes to the overall satisfaction of the community,” said Crawfordsville Postmaster Toccara Woods.

The United States Postal Service is an independent federal establishment, mandated to be self-financing and to serve every American community through the affordable, reliable and secure delivery of mail and packages to 169 million addresses six and often seven days a week. Overseen by a bipartisan Board of Governors, the Postal Service is implementing a 10-year transformation plan, Delivering for America, to modernize the postal network, restore long-term financial sustainability, dramatically improve service across all mail and shipping categories, and maintain the organization as one of America’s most valued and trusted brands.
The Postal Service generally receives no tax dollars for operating expenses and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to fund its operations.
